Chevy 1.8 Thermostat Housing Replacement (2012-2016) (Cruze, Sonic)

In this video I take you through a fast-paced step-by-step tutorial for removing and replacing the thermostat housing on a Chevrolet Sonic. A faulty thermostat housing will usually result in a coolant leak and will sometimes be accompanied by a P0128, P0597 or a P0599 code (check engine light). This video will be able to help anyone with a GM car with a naturally aspirated 1.8 ecotec engine from model years (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).

The coolant pipe that exits the top of the thermostat is prone to becoming brittle and breaking on removal. The Chevrolet part number is 25192905 and is referred to as (S) Pipe in the Chevrolet part catalog. The suggested retail cost of this part is $38.99.

The tools I use in this video are (In the order they appear): Electric impact driver, 13mm socket, T20 Torx bit, pocket screwdriver, scrap piece of hose, 13mm wrench, plastic drain pan, 1/4" flex-head ratchet, 10mm socket, remote hose clamp pliers, 3/8" flex-head ratchet, T10 external Torx socket, brake parts cleaner, utility razor blade, 3/8" torque wrench (In/lbs), spill-free coolant funnel, and a scan tool.

The part I installed in this video is an AC Delco Coolant Thermostat Housing with part number 15-81816.
