Hacienda Bona Vista - Castaner, Lares, Adjuntas Puerto Rico

Hacienda Bona Vista is a beautiful piece of history which takes you back over a Century ago. This spectacular home is perched on a high mountain in the lovely town of Castaner, approx. 2,000 ft. above sea level.

It’s hard to describe how captivating the views are from up here, simply majestic!!!

Come join us on a journey to 1878, when Salvador Oliver Castaner purchased this amazing Hacienda.

Back then the Hacienda produced & processed coffee for local consumption and also for export. In addition to the home, there was a store where farmhands could purchase food,clothing and other items as well as a storeroom/almacen. You can still see parts of the almacen, as well as the front and back glacis, where the coffee was laid out to dry in the sun.

The huge tanks where rainwater was collected for household & coffee processing use, also remain, as well as the old fire wood oven.

After a couple bad hurricanes like “San Ciprian” in 1932 & “George” in 1998 hit the Island, the home was heavily damaged and had to be rebuilt using the original materials & layout.

Bathrooms were added & the kitchen was modernized, but the rest of home is very much like it was originally, including some furniture: Don Salvador’s iron bed, his son’s bedroom set and over 200 antique pieces that you can find around the house.

Today the property still produces coffee, plantains,bananas, and oranges.
