What is TURBT?
TURBT is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and remove tumors from the inside of the bladder. The surgery is done through the urinary passage (urethra) using a thin camera called a cystoscope. No cuts or stitches are made on the skin.

Why is TURBT done?
To remove a bladder tumor
To confirm whether the tumor is cancerous
To check how deep the tumor has grown
Sometimes to control bleeding from the bladder

How is the procedure done?
You will receive spinal or general anesthesia.
A camera is inserted through the urethra to reach the bladder.
The tumor is shaved off using a special instrument.
Small electrical energy may be used to stop bleeding.
The tumor tissue is sent to the lab for biopsy.

After the Procedure:
A catheter (tube) may be placed to drain urine for 1–2 days.
Slight burning or blood in urine for a few days is common.
You may be advised to drink plenty of water.
A repeat check or second TURBT may be needed in some cases.

Risks & Possible Complications:
Burning while passing urine
Blood in urine for a few days
Infection
Rarely, perforation of bladder (small injury to bladder wall)

What to Expect in Recovery:
Most patients go home the same day or next day.
Normal activities can be resumed in 3–5 days.
Avoid heavy lifting for 2 weeks.
Final treatment plan (like BCG/chemotherapy in the bladder) depends on biopsy results.
