Hi Everyone! My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. Today I am talking about your puppy's first vet visit. The first veterinary visit can be exciting and a little nerve racking.


There is nothing to be scared about when taking your puppy to their first veterinary exam. The veterinarian will recommended a number of things, but the most important thing they will do is a complete physical exam. The physical exam makes sure that your puppy is healthy. If the veterinarian finds any disease, they will let you know. The veterinarian will then go over how to manage any diseases or concerns.


Please bring a fecal exam. All veterinarians want to test your puppy for intestinal parasites. Intestinal parasites are very common. On this same note, your veterinarian will deworm your puppy. Deworming a puppy is common practice and really important to do.


Vaccines are usually given every three weeks. Most people expect their puppy to get vaccines. Vaccines like DA2PP and Rabies are given to all puppies. Some other vaccines like kennel cough and lepto are given too, but not required. There are also local vaccines like canine influenza and lyme vaccines, but these are based on where you live.
