Mobs looted shops and set fire to cars as fear gripped Jakarta Thursday (14/5) over spreading violence that left at least nine people dead and forced President Suharto to cut short an overseas trip. Looting erupted in different parts of Jakarta, including its "China Town," with crowds making off with everything they could carry either on foot or on motorbikes.
