Welcome back to part 2 of how to make a Japanese kimono or yukata. Hopefully by now you think learning how to make a traditional kimono is easier than when you started. It's just a lengthy process! For this section, using Folkwear pattern 113, we will continue with the inside facing and front collar. In this part of the sew along you will sew a kimono collar with me and hand stitch the facing to the inside. When sewing a yukata, remember to not cut any of your fabric away as it is used in the completed design. It helps to add body, structure, and weight to the finished garment. I will be sure to remind you during the yukata tutorial to be mindful of this.

This part of the sewing pattern tutorial covers mainly the collar and facing. Please note with the pattern sewing at the front that your size may be different. If you look at Folkwear's sew a kimono step by step instructions, you can sew the large dots that have been added for placement. Before you start stitching the front piece to the body, make sure they are aligned properly.

Though only the second part of the Japanese kimono tutorial, once you've finished these two steps, you'll have put together most of the body section. Just stick with it! When you've finished the project you'll know all about kimonos and how a kimono is made. The sew a kimono robe project is done in 4 videos, and it's easy. Just don't give up when you get to the hand stitching. After this you have tow more sewing patterns tutorials, and you'll be done. unlike the cheap store bought versions, you will have your very own real Japanese yukata.
