Here at Clarity Creative, we strongly recommend that all businesses set up and maintain a Google Business Profile (GBP). Not only does it help with visibility to potential customers/clients/patients, but it also helps Google recognize your business as it pertains to their algorithm.

The first step is to google your business. If you don’t already have a profile set up you can simply click ‘Own this business’ and be on your way. Once you’ve taken ownership of your business, you’ll be able to edit the profile, reply to reviews, add posts, and more.

Once you’re inside your profile, you’ll see a lot of options. It’s best to try to fill them all out with as much accurate information as possible.

Perhaps one of the most important things is to set your primary category. For example, a chiropractor would be ‘chiropractor’ but if you office offers medical massages, you can put that as a secondary category. Category is very important because it tells Google what you are. Keep in mind, you can change this if you need.

Some of the areas you’ll see are things like ‘description’. This is where you will describe your business. Are you a chiropractor? Then tell them what your beliefs are, your business motto, and what types of services you offer. It doesn’t have to go into detail as long as it’s a nice summary of what you do and why you do it.

Next, you’ll see essentials like your phone number and business hours. Make sure to fill those out accurately. You’ll also want to double check these from time to time as Google likes to add new features all of the time.

Another feature you’ll notice is something called ‘products and services’. Products are not necessarily something you sell, (but it can be!), but you can also put things in there like ‘scoliosis evaluation’ and ‘chiropractic adjustments’. It’s important to detail these as much as possible and you can even add a link back to the area of your website that talks about that option.

Services will usually be the same as your products and although not as detailed, they are equally as important.

Not every profile will need to use the ‘insurance’ option but it’s a great tool for medical facilities. You’ll see a list and you’ll be able to choose which insurances you accept. This helps in case someone searches for ‘chiropractor medicaid’, so you’ll pop up if you offer that option.

Another cool feature is that you can add photos, posts, and Q/A of your business. This helps people to see that you’re active in your business, and of course continues to help with the Google algorithm.

Finally, once you’ve set up your profile, you can see and respond to your reviews. This is important because, good or bad, responding to people shows that you’re not only appreciative, but apologetic to reviews that may not have had a good experience at your business.
