Sheikh Hasina government announced earlier that at least three Mega Projects will be opened in June 2022 including Padma Bridge. Last week the government officials reconfirmed that the Padma Bridge will be open for traffic in June,2022. All of a sudden, Sheikh Hasina announced yesterday that the Padma Bridge will be open in December 2022. She blamed the war on Ukraine for the delay of opening Padma Bridge. as some materials needed to be collected from Europe. That was a funny lie as the Government reconfirmed several occasions that the construction work of Padma Bridge has done only carpeting work left. Even a few weeks ago, the government announced that Taka 1000 crore was saved in Padma Bridge construction work, which was also a lie. The real fact is, the government has no money to spend on Padma Bridge as a result the Government had to cut ADP of Taka 20000 crores from various sectors including Padma Bridge construction. More than Taka 2000 crore payment is due to the Padma Bridge contractor, China Major Bridge Engineering Company Ltd. Same issue is also pending regarding the Metro Rail project MRT-6, Japanese company, Nippon Koei is demanding Taka 1000 crore before starting the operation of MRT-6.The great financial crisis will hit the economy of Bangladesh like 1974 and will be worse than Sri-Lanka. Sheikh Hasina definitely missed the opening ceremony of Padma Bridge in December. 2022 because, until December 2022, she may not remain in power. Serious financial crisis will oust her from power, no exception. Corruption, misuse and mismanagement of billions of public money has pushed the economy of Bangladesh into a deep canyon, no way of recovery.
