What is prosody? In this video from the Berklee Online course, Arranging for Songwriters: Instrumentation and Production in Songwriting, by Bonnie Hayes and Sarah Brindell, Bonnie Hayes begins to answer the question about what prosody is. In songwriting, prosody is all about making all of the elements combine to create a unified whole. Generally, stable emotions should be supported by stable lyric structures, and unstable emotions should be supported by unstable lyric structures. But prosody doesn’t only limit itself to lyricism, it can also be applied in arranging, production, and even mixing. If a lyric about being lonely is accompanied by many instruments, then you have not achieved prosody! Watch the video to learn more.
