On New Year’s Eve 2022, a Sauk Prairie police officer reported his personal car stolen. Later that same day, the vehicle was discovered wrecked and abandoned under a bridge — airbags deployed, blood on the door, but no driver. What follows is the chaotic response that unfolded, and the shocking fallout when investigators realized whose car it was. Officer Ludowits was charged with a misdemeanor for obstructing an officer. He was required to go to a 18-month deferred prosecution program. Both officers that were on scene, Ludowits and Deuman resigned shortly after this incident.
