Perspectives from the Director of National Drug Control Policy

The challenge of illicit narcotics reaches across borders and threatens families, communities, and countries throughout the Western Hemisphere. The complex nature of the challenge posed by the production and trafficking of narcotics, and the need for robust cooperation, is most clearly on display in the cases of Colombia and Ecuador. In Colombia, the United States is building on an extensive history of cooperation as the Petro administration seeks to target the root causes of drug trafficking and insecurity. In Ecuador, the United States is building new partnerships with the Noboa government as it works to tackle a surge in criminal activity fueled by the drug trade.

This event will feature Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of National Drug Control Policy, for a conversation on his recent dialogues with President Petro and President Noboa. The conversation will focus on the current state of U.S. counter-narcotics cooperation with both countries, opportunities to deepen partnerships, and the challenges both countries continue to face.
