The challenges of the past year have shone a light on many aspects of our lives. Perhaps the greatest spotlight has been on our health and wellness. While the world scrambled to find solutions to a public health crises, one of the most obvious and readily available medicines was largely overlooked. Conveniently, this same medicine has an almost universal positive impact on many of the most common diseases that face us today. And this medicine has no known negative side effects. That medicine is movement. The physiological effect of exercise on everything from quality of life, to mental health, to resiliency against the worst global pandemic of our lifetime is profound, evidence-based, and without drawbacks. In this talk, Mike will share the overwhelming evidence on why we should stop thinking of exercise as simply getting sweaty and raising our heart rate…and start thinking of it as the single most universal medicine to combat the heath and wellness issues we face today. A sports scientist and coach who is passionate about fitness and performance, Mike helps everyday people learn about the benefits of fitness and coaches some of the top athletes in the world to chase their dreams. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
