In this video we model the electro-mechanical behavior of a piezoelectric transducer under time-dependent mechanical loading. We approach this multi-physics problem by combining the Solid Mechanics and Electrostatics interfaces in the software, and we investigate the piezoelectric direct effect i.e. the electricity generated by a piezoelectric material under mechanical stress. We show how to apply proper mechanical and electrical boundary conditions to model the system and how to find the outputs of the system. Finally, we discuss the mechanical stress as well as the electric potential generated on the system as a result of a harmonic loading. This video is beneficial for understanding piezoelectric effect and design of various piezoelectric-based systems such as sensors, energy harvesters, and actuators.
