Shahnaz Rahmatullah on the 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary of Rehana Ashequr Rahman on 8 March 2019

The line is indeed very thin between life and death. This moment full of life, and in the next no more. Only the other day, on 8 March 2019, Shahnaz Rahmatullah, my childhood friend and my most favorite singer of heavenly voice came to our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebrations. She stayed late, participated actively, enjoyed the company of artists and friends. She sang songs, even though from the early 90’s she gave up singing and was rarely seen in public. She was so happy and full of life. She gifted 3 CDs of her songs to my sister Farhana, whom she met after almost 4 decades. Incidentally we met earlier in the last week of February 2019, in Dolly Iqbal’s place. (Dolly is a reputed Dance Artist of excellence from 70’s).Farhana was with me. Shahnaz was excited to see Farhana Haque Rahman, her favorite English News Caster after about 40 years. It was very sweet of her that she remembered and brought the CD’s for Farhana on 8 March. She recalled the memories of our childhood days in the 60’s when we sang together in the popular children’s program ‘Khela Ghor’ regularly broadcasted in the Dhaka radio.

Today, on the 24 March 2019, she is no more. It seems her last performance and public appearance was on 8 March 2019, our 50th Golden Anniversary.

One of the best singers of the Indian sub-continent, Shahnaz’s voice stands different, had the different contour and enthralling melody. She was a legend in the music world. I shall always remember her and cherish her memories.
