Originally released in 1984, The Toxic Avenger became a cult favourite for fans of old-school B-movies, with its tale of a scrawny nerd who becomes an unlikely hero after toxic waste transforms him into a super-strong mutant.
In this episode of ReelTalk, Ben reviews the 2025 remake, which stars Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as the lead character Winston, AKA ‘Toxie,’ alongside Kevin Bacon (Footloose) who plays the villain, Bob Garbinger.
The movie also features, Elijah Wood (Lord of The Rings), Jacob Tremblay (Luca), Taylour Paige (Zola), Annette Badland (Ted Lasso, Outlander) and David Yow (Dinner in America).

The Toxic Avenger follows Winston, a struggling widower and single father to his step-son, whose life gets even harder when he is diagnosed with a terminal brain disease.
When a plea to his boss for assistance is cruelly ignored, Winston decides to rob the company, which leads to his exposure to toxic chemicals in the factory, transforming him into the Toxic Avenger.
Ben was a big fan of the original, but does this remake hit all the right nostalgic notes of the 80s classic?
