Empathy:
To design an innovative line extension for Maggi, the first step is to deeply understand evolving consumer needs. Urban families seek quick, healthy, and customizable meal options, while students and working professionals demand convenience without compromising taste. Through surveys, store immersions, and social media listening, Maggi identifies consumer concerns such as the desire for healthier ingredients, guilt-free snacking, and new global flavors. Parents express the need for nutritious options for children, while fitness‐oriented consumers seek high-protein alternatives.
Define:
Based on the empathy insights, the core problem becomes clear: consumers want instant foods that balance taste, health, and novelty. They are bored with repetitive flavors and want more nutritious variants to match modern lifestyles. The challenge for Maggi is to create a line extension that maintains its iconic taste while addressing health consciousness and flavor exploration. This leads to a focused problem statement: How might Maggi offer a new product range that is quick to prepare, healthier, and aligned with diverse taste preferences
Ideate:
In the ideation stage, creative brainstorming yields multiple potential line extensions. Ideas include high-protein noodles, millet-based noodles, low-sodium options, Asian fusion flavors, and ready-to-cook meal bowls. Another set of ideas focuses on targeted segments, such as kids’ “Veggie Boost” noodles enriched with vegetables or “Fitness Fuel” noodle cups. Cross-functional teams explore feasibility, cost, and differentiation to shortlist the most promising concepts.
Prototype:
Maggi develops small-batch prototypes for the top ideas—such as millet noodle cups, protein-rich variants, and Korean-inspired chili ramen. Packaging mockups, taste samples, and preparation instructions are created. These prototypes help visualize the final product while enabling rapid feedback loops with consumers.
Test:
Finally, Maggi tests prototypes through tasting sessions, retail trials, and online feedback. Insights reveal what flavors resonate, whether nutritional claims are credible, and how willing customers are to purchase. Based on feedback, flavors are refined, packaging is adjusted, and pricing is optimized—ensuring that the final line extension connects authentically with consumer expectations.
