Описание к видео Doritos owner “Pepsico” announces removal of all petroleum-based synthetic dyes, linked to cancer

PepsiCo has announced plans to remove all petroleum-based synthetic food dyes from its snack products, including Doritos, responding to growing scientific and public concern over potential health risks linked to artificial coloring agents.

Synthetic dyes such as Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 are derived from petroleum and have been associated in studies with inflammation, hyperactivity in children, and possible cancer risks, particularly with long-term exposure. While regulators allow limited use, health researchers have increasingly questioned whether “acceptable limits” truly reflect cumulative, lifelong consumption.

PepsiCo’s move signals a major shift in the global food industry. The company plans to replace artificial dyes with natural color sources derived from vegetables, fruits, spices, and algae — such as beetroot, turmeric, paprika, and spirulina. These alternatives are already widely used in Europe, where food regulations are stricter than in many other regions.

The transition is complex. Natural dyes are more sensitive to heat, light, and shelf life, requiring reformulation, new supply chains, and updated manufacturing processes. However, PepsiCo states that consumer trust and long-term health considerations outweigh the technical challenges.

This decision reflects a broader trend: consumers are demanding transparency and safer ingredients, and multinational brands are being forced to adapt. While removing synthetic dyes does not make chips “healthy,” it reduces unnecessary chemical exposure in everyday foods.

PepsiCo’s announcement may push competitors to follow suit, marking a turning point where convenience food begins aligning more closely with science-driven health responsibility.
