Astronomy on Tap is a global phenomenon where professional scientists give informal science talks in local bars with accompanying pub trivia and interactions with the public. The Los Angeles chapter of Astronomy on Tap is very active, with monthly events at the Dog Haus Biergarten in Pasadena. This recording is a bit noisy due to the logistics of operating a camera in a crowded bar, but it sufficiently captures the enthusiastic energy of the few hundred attendees each month. Antonio Rodriguez is a PhD candidate in the Department of Astronomy at Caltech. He will earn his PhD this spring and then begin a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard in Fall 2025. His work focuses on discovering and characterizing accreting binary stars, and on stellar mass black holes. This work relies relies on a multiwavelength crossmatch between X-rays and optical data from large telescopes. He is broadly interested in extracting scientific use out of large astronomical datasets with application to stellar evolution.
