Scott Bonnar 45 Teardown (3 - Clutch Body Removal)

Описание к видео Scott Bonnar 45 Teardown (3 - Clutch Body Removal)

Working across the machine now, we'll remove the clutch body. If it's still together--or even if it's apart--the clutch half on the chain side should slide off the PTO shaft. Remove the thrust pad next. The small sprocket then comes off the other end of the PTO and the shaft itself can be removed, along with the bearing housing.

A large Woodruff key is used on the motor end of the PTO whereas a smaller Woodruff key is used on the sprocket end (and elsewhere throughout the mower).

The solid deck machines typically use a self-aligning bearing at the end of the PTO (shown in this video) whereas the twin rail machines can either the self-aligning or regular bearing. Because twin rail frames are welded together, the self-aligning bearing is (in theory) not required in that case. The sides on solids are bolted together and (in theory!) may be subject to minor alignment issues.

The clutch body is separated by undoing the three bolts which run through it. Use your screwdriver to hold the bolt in place while you loosen the nut; this way you'll avoid stripping out the head of the bolt.

Finally, the clutch bearing can be removed… with some help from physics.

In subsequent videos we'll be taking this machine back to bare metal before the rebuild. Watch all the teardown videos here:    • Scott Bonnar 45 Teardown

About me and this channel: I'm Michael, a homeowner and aspiring lawn addict. I've put together these videos to share as much as I can, as best I can, from my recent experience rebuilding two Scott Bonnar 45 mowers. Although I'm a passionate wood worker and ex-IT guy, I have zero mechanical experience. I'm no expert on these subjects but I learn by sharing and it encourages me to grow a better lawn and build a better mower if I know you're watching!
