An experiment I have planned for the future requires some potassium chloride of reasonable purity. Rather than buying some directly, I decide to go with the cheaper option and get some diet salt, which contains 50% potassium chloride.
Separation of the potassium chloride is achieved by dissolving the salt in boiling water, and allowing the solution to cool, which crystallises out the potassium chloride exclusively.
