This unknown stunningly beautiful young woman is of Filipino and Chinese ancestry. Back then, in the 1870's, she's referred to as a mestizo de sangley. This particular photo was taken by the Dutch photographer Francisco Van Camp circa 1875, in his studio in Manila, Luzon. Fresh-faced and all-natural with her hair flowing wildly, this portrait is considered the "Mona Lisa" of the Pacific Islands, or the 19th century "Mona Lisa".

Sangley (English plural: Sangleys or Spanish plural: Sangleyes) and Mestizo de Sangley (Sangley mestizo, mestisong Sangley, chino mestizo or Chinese mestizo) are archaic terms used in the Philippines to describe a person of pure overseas Chinese ancestry and mixed Chinese and native Filipino ancestry (the latter were referred to in Spanish: Indio, lit. 'Indian', as natives of the East Indies) respectively during the Spanish Colonial Era in the Philippines. The Sangley Chinese were one of the preceding ancestral groups to both modern Chinese Filipinos and the modern Filipino mestizo descendants of the Mestizos de Sangley (Chinese mestizos, mixed descendants of Sangley Chinese and native Filipinos), who were mestizos (mixed peoples) under the Spanish Colonial Empire, classified together with other Filipino mestizos, such as the Mestizos de Español (Spanish mestizos, mixed descendants of colonial-era Spanish Filipinos and native Filipinos), the Tornatrás (Spanish-Chinese mestizos, mixed descendants of colonial-era Spanish Filipinos and Sangley Chinese), the Mestizos de Bombay (Indian mestizos, mixed descendants of colonial-era Indian Filipinos and native Filipinos), Mestizos de Japóneses (Japanese mestizos, mixed descendants of colonial-era Japanese Filipinos and native Filipinos), etc.
