✅ Understanding Cataract and Glaucoma
👉 Cataract: A condition where the eye’s natural lens becomes cloudy, typically due to aging. It results in impaired vision and requires surgical intervention for treatment.

👉 Glaucoma: A disease characterized by abnormally high eye pressure that damages the optic nerve, leading to gradual vision loss. While glaucoma is primarily managed with eye drops, advanced cases often require surgical treatment.

While Cataracts can only be treated by surgery, Glaucoma is primarily controlled by Eye drops.
In advanced cases of Glaucoma where eye drops are not able to control the eye pressure, surgery may be required.

✅ About Trabeculectomy: Glaucoma Surgery
Trabeculectomy is a surgical procedure designed to lower intraocular pressure by creating a new drainage pathway for eye fluid.

1. A small flap is created in the sclera (white part of the eye) beneath the upper eyelid.

3. The scleral flap is loosely repositioned to safeguard the drainage pathway.
4. The surgical site is covered with the conjunctiva, the eye’s outermost layer


✅ About MICS (Micro Incision Phacoemulsification): Cataract Surgery
Phacoemulsification is the most commonly performed cataract surgery technique.

👉 Procedure Highlights:
1. A small incision is made at the cornea's edge, and an opening is created in the lens capsule.
2. An ultrasonic probe is used to break the cloudy lens into tiny fragments, which are then suctioned out.
3. An intraocular lens (IOL) implant is inserted through the small incision using a hollow tube. The lens unfolds and is securely positioned in the lens capsule.
This combined approach of phacoemulsification for cataract and trabeculectomy for glaucoma offers effective management for patients facing both conditions.
