Put in my shallow open face. Cut into the closest side to the camera first. This allows me to match up the cut with my bore cut. I bore up to the back side of my face cut creating a hinge. I bore out the rest leaving root flares holding. Then release the root flares in a way that helps the tree take the hinge. This also cleans up my butt log. Making it look better, easier to skid, less room on the truck and easier on the sawmills
