The Yorkshire Terrier is, according to many animal lovers, the cutest and most beautiful dog in the world, but are their good looks accompanied by a likable personality?

As with any dog breed, Yorkshire Terriers have both great traits and certain downsides. In this video, I'll reveal them all to you.

1. Character.

Yorkshire Terriers have traits that are an excellent fit for any animal lover wanting a small, beautiful, cute, and always cheerful little dog.

These pups are playful, cheerful, and very friendly, but they're not a perfect fit for every child. Why?

Yorkies are small dogs, and they could quickly get hurt.

They're a good choice for slightly older children who know how to handle them with care.

As with any other dog breed, I advise early socialization, as well as teaching your child how to act toward dogs.

Yorkshire Terriers aren't overly friendly toward strangers.

They can get very suspicious, and they could start barking at any intruders entering their territory.

If you believe their barking could bother your neighbors, teach your dog the "quiet" command at an early age.

2. How long do Yorkshire Terriers live?

The Yorkshire Terrier usually reaches an age of 13 - 16 years.

3. How to train a Yorkshire Terrier?

Training Yorkshire Terriers isn't easy, but it doesn't have to be difficult either if you know how to approach them.

Yorkies are curious and intelligent dogs with a desire for activity and attention.

Successfully training a Yorkshire Terrier requires:
• sufficient knowledge of dog training techniques,
• starting while they're young,
• persistence and consistency,
• treats and praises,
• a gradual approach.

In other words, nothing too different from most other breeds. Start from an early age, be persistent, use positive reinforcement techniques, and do not resort to harsh training methods.

4. Care.

These dogs are very playful and exceptionally energetic.

They love taking walks. Two daily walks on the shorter side should satisfy their physical activity requirements.

Brushing daily and bathing once a week is also a necessity.

Owners often either tie their Yorkie's hair away from the eyes or trim it; even a single sharp hair could scratch their eyes and cause irritation.

5. Weight.

Yorkshire Terriers weigh between 4 and 7 lbs, although some can reach up to 10 lbs.

6. Height.

Yorkshire Terriers usually reach a height of 6 - 9 inches.

7. Are they prone to health issues?

Yorkies are generally a healthy dog breed and are not especially prone to any particular illnesses.

However, they sometimes injure their paws from all the jumping around they do, so try not to let them jump from great heights!

8. Dog food.

As with any dog breed, I advise selecting quality dog food to keep your dog healthy and looking its best.

And while these dogs aren't prone to obesity, take care not to overfeed them.

What makes these dogs the right choice for you?

Yorkshire Terriers are an excellent choice if you're looking for a:
• small,
• playful,
• indoor dog.

Yorkshire Terriers are NOT a good choice if you want a dog who:
• doesn't require much attention,
• is independent.

This dog breed certainly has its eccentricities, as well as specific advantages and disadvantages.

However, their good traits prevail, making them extraordinarily popular family pets all over the world. Would you become a Yorkie owner yourself?
