Rezső Seress was a Hungarian Jew. He was a composer and a one handed pianist, after an injury. He became notorious after 'Gloomy Sunday' (Ein Lied von Liebe und Tod) after an urban legend, became associated with a spate of suicides. The song became known as the Hungarian suicide song.

The song was made famous by Paul Robeson and the Billie Holiday. This version is arranged for violin and piano.
