Teach Dogs To Trim Their Own Back Toenails | Dog Training Nation

Trimming your dog’s nails can be difficult, especially if your dog hates nail trims. There’s an easier way, and you don’t even have to touch your dog’s nails!

You'll need yummy treats, a concrete surface and your dog.

1. Toss a treat 3-4 feet away from you, so your dog has to chase the treat. Imagine you're skipping a stone across a lake. You don't want an arc in your toss.
2. Keep sessions short—no longer than a few minutes—but practice every other day to trim nails.
3. During the session, you should hear your dog's back nails scratching against the surface. This is when you'll know his nails are being trimmed.
