In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES, you can override the Giant Mouser invulnerability period by pausing the game, then unpausing as he closes his mouth.

Normally, the Giant Mouser boss at the end of Area 4 can only be damaged when his mouth is open. However, if you hit the Start button to pause the game while the Mouser is closing his mouth, then unpause, you will still be able to damage him, even though his mouth is closed.

This trick will save you just a few seconds, but it's necessary for a speedrun! Plus, TMNT is a very difficult game, so you're going to need all the help you can get if you're playing it casually.
