Описание к видео Lancaster Woodturners coffee hour

Club news: John Ziegler and Doug Reesor report on returning the 3520A Powermatic to its rightful owner Rick Baker, and the pleasantly unexpected donation by Peter Caddick of a Grizzly 14x40(?) lathe and Doug’s find of a Powermatic 3520B (plus a dust collector, grinder, many turning tools, and a lot of wood blanks and roughed-out bowls) on Philadelphia Craig’s List. Both lathes are now set up at Kauffman’s Kitchens.
John K also reports that after reviewing the latest LAWA membership list he’s happy to note that many Edmonton turners have joined LAWA!

Mike Peace: Mike turned a few small Raffan-style pots finished inside with acrylic paint and the outsides with Modern Masters’ metal-reactive paints, followed by an extended discussion of the technique.

John Kelsey: John notes the great news that Richard Raffan has received the AAW’s Honorary Lifetime Member Award, which will be presented at the AAW National Symposium, and the sad news that, due to ill health, David Ellsworth (#1 AAW member) will not be able to attend the symposium, for the first time in AAW history.

Jim Duxbury: Up to his tricks, Jim embellishes his revolving spheres with a finial-topped sphere with a bottom ‘driving’ post, followed by a discussion of Jim’s method for turning near-perfect spheres without a jig. Jim also shows a bandsaw-cut wooded ‘accordion,’ an accordion vase, multiple steam-bent accordion pieces, and then asks, ‘what in the world do you do with these?’

Dave Potts: Dave shows a box and a vase (cat food container???) with ovoid cross-sections, made using the ‘lost wood’ process.

Don Smith: Don shows his handiwork off the lathe, a base for the aptly-named large triangular glass ’BWT Triangular Trophy.’ Don also shows his skills in his repair of a 100-to-150-year-old ‘candy twist’ spindled chair (including new seat cushion and upholstery), a repaired stool, another trophy base for the Chairman’s Silver Cup, and a crafty hobby horse.

Doug Reesor: Doug shows his lovely off-center burl piece for Ken Vasko.

Randy Smith: Randy announces that the Harrisburg Woodcraft ‘Turn for the
Troops’ will be held this year on November 8 th and 9 th ; all are welcome to come turn, as all materials and tools will be provided. Randy also shows his three mahogany finger bowls finished with CA glue.
