About this video: On October 4 and 7, 2024, I chased Union Pacific’s only operative 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy” steam locomotive number 4014 leading the Heartland of America excursion train in Southeastern Texas. The 4014 operating along with many of Union Pacific’s beautiful vintage passenger cars made for an incredible sight along Texas rails on these days. The footage in this video was filmed in the towns of Hearne, Bryan, College Station, Navasota, and Magnolia, Texas. Footage like this was made possible by the Union Pacific Steam Crew and the many others involved with keeping this 1941-built beast of a locomotive operating on the rails - I extend my utmost gratitude to them for their work, and to you for watching. I also featured additional footage in the middle of this video that was filmed on October 6, 2024 at a new exhibit that opened just several months before in June of 2024 at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum in College Station, Texas. These clips feature Union Pacific locomotive 4141 (an EMD SD70ACe with its engine and electronics removed) and a US Marine One helicopter (a de-militarized and restored VH-3D). I thank the members of my family with Texas A&M’s Bush School and everyone else from the Bush Library and the campus involved in the excellent work on this exhibit. I included my footage of the UP 4141 in this video since it operated behind the UP 4014 just 5 years before in November of 2019 on the same Southeastern Texas rails. Quite an interesting overlap and connection to American past.
