Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel, today´s video is the second out of an upcoming Airbus system knowledge video series. Today we will cover some basic knowledge of the A320 hydraulic system,
This is the least you should know prior starting you A320 Type rating. This is not a requirement but definitely nice to know and some of the topics can definitely be within the questionnaire in your airline assessment.

The A320 Hydraulic system consists of three independent continuously operating systems and marked with the colors green, blue, and yellow.
Each system has its own hydraulic fluid reservoir and accumulator but fluids can´t be transferred from one system to another. And the normal system operating pressure for each system is 3,000 psi, which is about 200 bars compared to your car tire pressure which is 2 to 3 bars.

To provide this kind of pressure, each hydraulic system has it´s own pump. The Green and Yellow systems have their own engine driven pump plus the yellow system has an electrical driven back up pump. The blue system only has an electrically driven pump for normal operation and for emergency cases a second pump driven by a Ram Air Turbine, I´ll get back to that later.

Overhead Panel:

All pumps can be select ON or AUTO or intentionally OFF with the respective hydraulic push buttons on the overhead panel. So in the normal operating configuration, there are no lights illuminated on the HYD panel.

ECAM:

So if all system are operating normal the ECAM hydraulic page would look like this.
At the bottom you have the Reservoir level and a fire shut off valve. A green in-line indicates the associated pushbutton switch for the pump is ON and hydraulic pressure is normal.
Here you can see that the BLUE ELEC pump is ON and hydraulic pressure is normal.
An amber LO indicates the pump is ON but hydraulic pressure is low.
An amber cross-line would indicate the BLUE ELEC pump is OFF.

And if there were to be a failure the ECAM HYD page will automatically be displayed with any Hydraulic system fault, or by pressing the HYD pushbutton switch on the ECAM control panel.

Make sure to watch till the end as I´ll be going through some system failures.

Thanks for watching, all the best your "Captain" Joe
