The Rode NTG4 and Sennheiser MKE600 are in a roughly similar price range. The Sennheiser costs more. There is quite a different tonal characteristic between the two and sometimes, when you fire up one mic against another directly, those differences become much more obvious, which is what I found in this comparison.

I have had the MKE600 for some time now and had always felt that it was sometimes a little thin sounding in certain situations, but hearing it directly with the NTG4 shows that it's not anything like as bad as I used to think. More forgiving than the Rode on the front as well. The Rode has a slightly tighter pickup pattern I think.

Smaller shotgun mics are better indoors. The longer the barrel, the more chance of picking up phasing issues. These two would be classed as smaller shotguns so in that respect, are a little 'safer' to use indoors but phasing issues is the main reason why I often use a pencil mic which doesn't have that issue.

I personally found this comparison very interesting myself!!
