Yining (Chinese: t 伊寧, s 伊宁, p Yīníng, w I-ning), also known as Gulja[2] (Uyghur: غۇلجا‎; Kazakh: قۇلجا; Chinese transcription: s 固勒扎, p Gùlèzhā) and formerly known as Ili and Kulja,[3] is a county-level city in northwestern Xinjiang, People's Republic of China, and the seat of the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture. Historically, Yining is the succcessor to the ruined city of Almaliq in neighboring Huocheng County.
