I nearly broke the B-Type speedrun PB/WR during this silly challenge run, with a 3:53 flat (PB is 3:50.667, WR is 3:36.705), view the run in its own video here:    • (3:53.000) Yoshi (NES) B-Type speedru...

I vowed to never speedrun this game again, but alas, 3 years later, I come back to do a silly challenge involving playing the game under the RetroAchievements website using an appropiate account, and the RetroArch emulator itself to connect to the service, with the goal of mastering the entire set as fast as I can...

RetroAchievements is a community-led website where people create achievement sets for their favorite retro games, which other people can strive to add to their list of "Mastered" games they have completed. The set for the NES version of Yoshi contains 28 achievements, totalling to a nice 400 points, which is DOUBLED if you earn them with Hardcore mode toggled (which disables savestates, rewinding and frame advancing, but fast-forwarding is fair game), allowing for 800 points to be earned from just this set alone. Some of these achievements are extremely brutal, and for ones involving B-Type, you have to get all the way to level 28 starting from level 1, with a Game Over requiring starting all the way back at the bottom. RNG on levels 6+ can easily create near (or outright impossible) situations that require an unexplored technique I thought about, EXCESSIVE pause buffering . Repeat this thought process for 22 more levels and you can then relax with the A-Type achievements, until you realize those are no walk in the park.

The achievement route I tried to plan out goes as follows:
- Beat B-Type level 1 on High speed.
- Reset game, play B-Type on low speed all the way to level 28 and clear that level to get the P-Switch achievement.
- Game Over (or reset game), load up A-Type on High speed, make 3 full-column Yoshi eggs in one game.
- Reset game, A-Type on low speed level 1, go for Pacifist achievement.
- Once obtained, earn 15,000 pts and hatch 100 eggs in one game.
- Game Over one last time, after 100 eggs hatched (or 10 if you failed bonus game chance the first time), try to precisely time A button presses with music jingle into Bonus Game Chance to hatch 4 Yoshis in a row (type doesn't matter) at the end, with at least 1 Big Star Yoshi (a frame-perfect A press) for another achievement.

I did the A-Type achievements out of order, and even then, it gave me tons of trouble. I had an impossible situation during my first attempt at the Pacifist achievement (2,000 pts. in A-Type without hatching a single egg) at around 800 points which forced me to reset nearly 7 minutes in, and the Bonus Game Chance achievement took 6 failures until it bugged and gave me during yet another failure without understanding why. You have to spend 2-3 minutes hatching 10 more eggs and then topping out again to get another shot at that...not fun.

I bet many of you didn't know you were staring at a playable minigame in A-Type in front of your eyes all this time, huh? Get egg cracking!
Emulator: RetroArch 1.9.14 (stable)
