Jonas Cuaron's (Gravity) new film Desierto is a horror-action film about migration and societal fear and anxiety towards immigrants and foreigners. Although he had the idea for the film ten years ago, it wasn't until he realized he could wed it to a genre (in this case: action-horror) to better layers in the subtext of his film's message and themes. Paired with Gael Garcia Bernal, the two use the film to comment on one of America's biggest hot-button issues of the past eighteen months.
