Testing fake silver and sterling silver with nitric acid

Описание к видео Testing fake silver and sterling silver with nitric acid

This video shows how sterling silver and fake silver react to 67% nitric acid. The sterling silver is pretty much unaffected, the acid turning slightly milky. The fake silver piece fizzes and the acid turns bluey-green, indicating no silver and a very high copper content. The piece is silver plated brass and not sterling silver as the marks would suggest. Please be aware that nitric acid is very dangerous!
