Britain’s Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, joined the festivities in Athens, Greece on Thursday as the country marked 200 years since the start of its struggle for independence.

Greece celebrated the occasion with a parade that was meant to mark a new beginning after years of financial crisis, but had to be pared down due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

Charles, whose father Prince Philip was born in Corfu as part of the Greek royal family, joined other officials in laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier ahead of the parade.

Thursday’s festivities included a flyover by Greek, U.S. and French fighter jets and a military parade including performers dressed as Greek revolutionaries and “Evzones,” or presidential guards.
