Today's video is a different format from what I usually do. I asked Dr. Danisha Keating to join me and react to some situations. She is a former foster youth and brings some nuance and considerations to these situations:

Getting new clothing for a foster youth when they move in
Complimenting their appearance
Taking away screen time/video games

As we walk through these situations, it’s important to be open to modifying our parenting techniques, house rules, schedules, and set ups to support the youth’s needs.

We will never be perfect or say the right thing every single time. We are human. Acknowledging what you are noticing, being curious, and changing how we approach situations in the future can go a long way in creating a relationship with the youth in your care.
