The 4th-year students pursuing their Bachelor's degree in Ceramic Engineering at Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology have set their sights on unraveling the remarkable connection between ceramics and cement in their latest venture into ceramics advanced applications at Holcim Philippines, Inc. - Lugait Plant, in June 7, 2023. With a mission to discover the synergies between these two domains, these bright young minds are poised to revolutionize the future of construction materials.

The Lugait Plant of Holcim Philippines, Inc., known for its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to sustainable practices, will serve as the backdrop for this enlightening experience. Nestled amidst the scenic landscapes of Mindanao, this renowned cement manufacturing company offers a window into the fascinating world of cement production, where ceramics and cement seamlessly merge.

Guided by industry professionals and experts from Holcim, the exclusive plant visit delved into the intricate chemistry, engineering techniques, and practical applications that bring ceramics and cement together in perfect harmony, as well as the environmental practices implemented therein.

This unique opportunity did not only offered the chance to explore the industrial setting of Holcim's Lugait Plant but also facilitates direct interaction with professionals who have years of experience in the field. The students had the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions, ask pertinent questions, and forge connections that may shape their future careers in the ceramics and cement industry.

Archie Les Lasola, a graduating student who had his OJT in the said plant stated, “Returning to the plant and reconnecting with the engineers I had the pleasure of working with during my OJT period was a delightful experience. Being accompanied by my classmates this time added to the joy, as they too gained valuable insights into the practices, processes, and diverse product range at Holcim. Undoubtedly, the knowledge we acquired during this visit will greatly benefit us in our future careers, particularly if we choose to pursue opportunities in similar industries.”
