Digital forensics is an art of recovering and analyzing the contents found on digital devices such as desktops, notebooks, tablets, smartphones or similar device like hard disc & drives etc. Due to multifold cases of cyber crimes, and the exponential growth in digital devices all over the world, forensics branch has gained significant importance in the recent years, augmenting what was conventionally limited to the recovery and analysis of biological and chemical evidence during criminal investigations.

Digital evidence or electronic evidence is any probative information stored or transmitted in digital form that a party to a court case may use at trial. The digital evidences are used to establish a creditable link between the attacker, victim, and the crime scene. Digital evidence is usually not in a format that is directly readable my human. Therefore it requires some additional steps to convert it into a human readable form in the form of writing, which could be used as an authenticated proof for related case.
