In the spring of 1982, two nations separated by 8,000 miles went to war over a windswept chain of islands in the South Atlantic. The Falkland Islands, home to just over 1,800 people, became the center of an intense military and political struggle between Argentina and the United Kingdom. What followed was a 74-day conflict that tested logistics, endurance, and national pride.
For Britain, the war was seen as a matter of sovereignty and a final demonstration of global reach. For Argentina’s ruling junta, it was a gamble to rally public support and distract from economic crisis. Both sides faced immense challenges from the treacherous seas and unpredictable weather to the sheer distance from home bases. The fighting saw daring amphibious landings, fierce air battles, and the sinking of major warships.
