Impact Testing: Charpy Test to find the ductile-brittle transition

Описание к видео Impact Testing: Charpy Test to find the ductile-brittle transition

Charpy and Izod tests are conducted to determine the impact energy of different materials.
Ductile to brittle transition can be found by testing charpy specimen at different temperatures. Brittle material are expected to show lower impact energy than ductile material, therefore if we see a drop in the impact energy as the temperature decreases, we can identify the transition temperature. Material with face centered cubic (FCC) structures like aluminium do not have ductile to brittle transition, however, materials with body centered cubic (BCC) structure such as steel have ductile and brittle transition.
