Global Airlines Airbus A380 9H-GLOBL departing Prestwick Airport (EGPK) 04/10/2024

A short video of a moment in history - the first ever Airbus A380 that landed at Prestwick about 5 months ago, now the first Airbus A380 to take off from the airport as well.

Operated by Global Airlines, it sported its old China Southern livery when it arrived, but has since been changed to the Global Airlines livery. It’s a new airline and 9H-GLOBL is it’s first aircraft, adding some more significance on top of the location. The aircraft departed for Dresden, where it will get more work done to prepare for passenger service in 2025.

There are mixed opinions on how Global Airlines’ plans will ultimately pan out, but I for one wish them all the best on an interesting concept, and while I’m sad to see the A380 leave after being a feature at Prestwick for a few months, I’m grateful to have seen this small moment in history for the airport, a new airline, and ultimately aviation.
