Painting My FIRST Tray! 😱🦋 Blue Morpho Butterfly Stencil And A Resin Finish

Today I get to do something that I’ve wanted to do for a LONG time - paint a wooden tray! First I did a Dutch pour inside of a tape stencil, then gave it a durable resin finish.

I started out by priming and spray-painting the tray with Rustoleum spray paint. Then I made a stencil out of frog tape, based off of a photo of a blue morpho butterfly. Here’s how I make my tape stencils:    • How To Make A Tape Stencil For A Micr...

Titanium White (Creative Inspirations)
Dark Navy (Creative Inspirations Phthalo Blue and Black)
Sky Blue (Creative Inspirations)
Pale Blue (Creative Inspirations Sky Blue, with some white added)
Bright Aqua Green (Blick Studio Acrylics)
Metallic Teal (Blick Studio Acrylics)
Metallic Blue (Artist’s Loft)

Once the butterfly was dry, I added details primarily with my black Hippie Crafter paint marker! It made it very easy to add details.

After the paint fully cured, I washed it well with soapy water and rinsed it. Then I gave it a resin coating with Let’s Resin Tabletop Epoxy Resin. I used 100ml, which was the perfect amount for this tray! Find that resin here: https://letsresin.com/?ref=AnnaBlount... (affiliate link)

A quick note about epoxy resin safety. Even resins marked “Low-VOC” or resins that don’t have a strong smell are still POTENT CHEMICAL REACTIONS that make harmful vapors. Please stay well protected, it isn’t worth risking your health for a craft.
