Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday said that consultations are ongoing under the newly formed “One North East” initiative, a unified platform bringing together political and social leaders from all eight northeastern states to address common challenges and strengthen the region’s collective voice.

Speaking on the progress of the initiative, Sangma said discussions have already been held with several leaders, and the response to the idea of coming together on a common platform has been largely positive. He, however, note
d that such efforts are complex and have been attempted in the past, requiring time and careful deliberation.

The Chief Minister said the primary objective of “One North East” is to promote coordinated development while preserving the cultural identity of the region. He acknowledged that issues related to uniformity, differing political ideologies and individual party interests are among the key concerns currently being discussed.

Sangma said that while significant progress has been made in the first 45 days of consultations, it would be premature to disclose further details as no formal announcement has been made yet.
