Today's California EDD unemployment update will confirm that you do not need to open, reopen or reapply for PUA unemployment benefits here in the state of California. The CA EDD sent out confusing information when in their news release they said that they would automatically update both PUA and PEUC claims but many people on PUA logged onto to their CA EDD UI Online this morning they saw a link saying claim ended and a link instructing them to file a new claim. If you clicked the link that will be okay and later they even added a pop up message confirming you have an existing PUA claim and the EDD will contact you when you can certify for benefits again. So, if you're wondering if you should open a new claim or wait, my advice is to wait. The CA EDD is working on revising our claims and I hope to find out soon from the CA EDD when we can certify next. Don't worry, once you can certify again, they will pay us the extra $300 for the week starting 12/27. You will not miss out on any of the $300 extra unemployment boost, they just need more time while they reprogram and update their computer systems.
