Although we live in a data-driven world, it is often difficult to draw appropriate inferences from data. Dr. Murali Haran explains how statistical thinking can help us navigate our complicated world, from making better decisions in our personal lives to investigating two of the great challenges of our times: climate-change, and the spread of infectious diseases. Dr. Murali Haran is Professor and Head of the Department of Statistics at Penn State University. He has a PhD in statistics from the University of Minnesota and a BS in computer science with minors in film, mathematics, and statistics from Carnegie Mellon University. His research interests include statistical computing, spatial processes, uncertainty quantification for complex models, and interdisciplinary research in climate science and infectious disease modeling.
