The North Campus Sustainability Initiative serves to connect and link people on North campus with existing initiatives, provides exposure for organizations on and off campus and brings individuals and groups in contact with other individuals and groups to facilitate engagement.

Professor Steven J. Skerlos is Arthur F. Thurnau Professor at the University of Michigan departments of Mechanical Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is Director of the U-M Program in Sustainable Engineering and Co-Director of the Engineering Sustainable Systems Program. Professor Skerlos performs research in the fields of technology policy and sustainable design. He has co-founded two successful start-up companies (Accuri Cytometers and Fusion Coolant Systems), and co-founded BLUElab, a student group that serves society and the environment through the practice of sustainable design. His Ph.D. students in the Environmental and Sustainable Technologies Laboratory have addressed sustainability challenges in the fields of systems design, technology selection, manufacturing, and water.
