How To Change A Stem - Bicycle Mechanics

You may need to change the stem on your bicycle if you have recently had a bike fit.

Stem length can be changed to to make your position more comfortable or more aerodynamic. In this video, Daniel Lloyd shows you how to change your stem without damaging any of your components or your fork.

All you'll need for the job are the correct size tool for your stem. If you've got a carbon steerer, stem, or handlebars we'd strongly recommend using a torque wrench as going over the recommended torque will damage the parts. This is a painful and expensive mistake to make. Also, to follow Daniel's pro tips you'll need grip paste and anti seize for the stem bolts.
