Knights of the Square Table: Siege of Woippy Castle

This story takes place in the 13th century, around Woippy castle in Lothringen. In 959, the kingdom of Lotharingia was divided into Upper and Lower Lothringen, as parts of the Holy Roman Empire. After the dismantling of the duchy of Lower Lothringen, Upper Lothringen became known as the Duchy of Lothringen. Rule over this region alternated between the dukes of Burgundy and the kings of France. The area around Woippy castle was sandwiched between French and Germanic realms. This story illustrates the rivalry between the Germanic and French peoples. The plot is entirely fictional, but it takes place in a realistic setting. Woippy castle is an actual historical site in current-day Metz, France. The siege equipment in the video was used during this period, and is portrayed as accurately as possible.

This project was launched in 2021. It did consume more time and effort than I could have ever expected, but the main reason it took so long is because I didn’t work on it very often. This will likely be my last big project, as I have applied for university this year. It has been my dream to post a video of such quality, and that wish has at last been fulfilled. At the start of the project, I used my crappy ahh phone camera to film, but I purchased a DSLR camera halfway through. I also improved my animating skills throughout the filming phase. This explains the drastic increase in quality between the first and second part of the video.

I would like to thank everyone who took part in this project; MM Music, who provided the excellent soundtrack. All of the voice actors. But most importantly, my mother, who endured the torment of animation setups and Lego buildings scattered through the room, covered in dust.
