"Pantalea" derives from the Ancient Greek name “Pantaléo̱n" ,the name means “compassionate, most merciful”. Historically, the use of the name Pantaleon is linked to the cult of St. Pantaleon, whose reverence also extends outside of Italy: in Greece, for example, the saint is known as “Panteleimon” . The feast day, associated with Eastern Orthodox saints, is traditionally celebrated on July 27.
